Last couple of years food scene in Bali has changed dramatically. With the help of Instagram it became one of the major sights and obligatory part of your stay in Bali. Pink coffee and smoothie bowls along with beautiful tropical designed places are the major and most pretty images of food here. No need to go the regular food places anymore, there are way more options of places, that are perfectly suited for the modern style travellers. Bali now is not about drinking: it’s about healthy lifestyle.
Though traditional local food may not be a hit with the tourists, I personally like it and its worth trying. Due to this and the general creative and artistic feel of Bali is why so many wonderful modern places have sprung up recently. Many places appear quite fancy the average price for a healthy smoothy bowl is less than $5.
I’m usually fine with honest and tasty local food, but here in Bali i couldn’t stop myself from exploring modern food places. It was a big part of good time here. They are beautiful, tasty and healthy! Each day i visited new place and got a perfect opinion which one are the best. Month in Bali was great amount of time to try lots of different food options. Kim Soo cafe
Kim Soo is the interior shop with a beautiful mideterranean design in Seminyak. The place that looks like this could be expected in Mykonos, so it took me by surprise to spot it. Choose it for a classy and stylish brunch! It is really popular as a picture spot and actually got a lot of pretty stuff inside. Apart from store they got the cafe and it happens to be my favourite brunch spot in Bali. It looks really upscale and classy with the colours and settings and brings absolutely special mood. I love the colours and the menu, the service was super friendly and the people were really classy.
Food: The menu is full of typical healthy brunch items like salads and small plates, sandwiches, bowls, drinks etc. The dessert corner looks so beautiful!
What to try: My personal favourite was bagel with ham and cheese, fruit bowl with yoghurt and coffee. Also the place is good for a midday coffee with the desert.

This restaurant is located on the hill with the view to the surroundings and beautiful Jimbaran beach. When you enter – it’s like the other world! Design of the place is filled with white colours, beautiful greens, water reflections, candle lights and lots of small details. For a good reason the place works for the weddings, but most of the nights is a great upscale restaurant, which brings experience of it’s own.
Food: OPIA Bali takes it really serious and bring you the perfect gourmet cuisine. Cocktails are good and unordinary, food is very interesting and served in a creative and beautiful way.
What to try: I loved “Very glamorous salad” with the beetroot puree and overnight lamb shank was something that i never tried before and loved very much. Mango cheesecake an coffee were also good.

Rustica Cucina Italiana
Do you remember “Eat, Pray, Love”, where the main character had to go to Italy to eat and to Bali to love? I will save you tons of money, because you can Eat like in Italy and Love like in Bali. Rustica Bali is 10 years old Italian restaurant with Italian family as an owner. The main person here is Mama Luigina, who is the owner and the soul of the place. You can definitely feel her soul in every dish, this is that kind place. Some of the ingredients like cheese and wine comes from Europe, some are locally grown. All the recipes are original family recipes from Mama Luigina. She is cooking herself and you can meet her and have a talk. Rustica Bali is a bit different from the other places in this list. It’s the restaurant, where you go to have a food and leave totally in love with the owner and the ambience. While i was there i have heard at least 2 times from people that they don’t want to leave home, because they have found this restaurant.
Food: Pasta, pizza, antipasti, salads, wine
What to try: Everything above is like in good Italian family restaurant, you can’t choose something wrong. Pizza is real pizza and made in real oven, which makes a difference.

Ji Restaurant Bali
Canggu haven’t got many upscale dining places, but still there are some. This Japaneese restaurant in Canggu is part of the 5 star hotel next to it, but still it works separately. Located on the main street next to the beach it’s a great dining place. I was there for a all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch, which brings great food experience for a reasonable price. So if you miss your weekly dose of sushi, this place is definitely worth considering. Thought Sunday brunch works on all-you-can-eat, it is a-la-carte. You simply can order anything from the menu. Rolls are great and salads are exceptional. Free-flow fresh juices and desserts along with the view to the sea are a great opportunity for a greta brunch. If you feel for some drinks (or for 5) , they also got a free flow alcohol package.
Food: For Sunday brunch they have rolls, sashimi salads, salads, japanese style steaks, juices, deserts
What to try: sashimi salad was exceptional

The list of good paces to eat in Bali definitely couldn’t be complete without this place. Nook got several branches and it’s main advantage is that this place faces beautiful rice fields. It is almost located on the field and got beautiful design of it’s own. It feels like you are having a dinner in a beautiful restaurant in a village. Rice fields, clean design and the colours of food definitely makes it a good place to visit for the breakfast or lunch.
Food: Salads, bowls, mains, coffee and almost everything
Price range: 10-25$
Note: Not recommended to go after 4-30 because of sunset mosquitos
To skip this place in this list would be unfair, because KYND is probably the brightest and the most famous coffee place in Bali. The main reason why it’s so popular is the design of the place and of the food. It is brilliant! I don’t know how they make it work and what the thing about combination, but i can’t stop myself saying “beautiful” while being there. On the there side, i came here only for the drinks and the quality was a huge disappointment. I haven’t tried food there and was happy with it, because the drinks tastes pretty bad and were relatively pricey. So it’s amazing place for lifestyle pictures for your Instagram, but i couldn’t recommend it as a place to eat.
Everywhere this place is called the best upscale dining place in Bali. The setting looks nice on pics, so I choose it for my birthday dinner and came there one day in advance specially to reserve the table. I loved the specific one and asked to reserve it. What was my surprise when i came and there was only one table occupied and that was the one i reserved! Later after checking the menu, i realised that i simply don’t like anything and as the place was almost empty and the atmosphere was ponderous, we simply decided that it’s not worth 100$+ bill and left.
Shelter + Bali bowls
This place is probably the most promoted and famous modern food place in Bali. But probably because of it’s popularity it happened to be disappointment. Though the food was nice looking and some areas inside looks pretty and insta friendly, but the service absolutely ruin all the good. Slow and absolutely not welcoming! At the end i even couldn’t get my change from the waiter and had to leave without it. Prices here are same as everywhere and location is a bit away from everything, so definitely options above are way more interesting.
Apart from this list, there are at leat 15 more places to choose from and i simply couldn’t visit every, but the list above is definitely the list of top places to eat in Bali! You even don’t have to choose between trendy, heathy and tasty. All of them are worth a visit! So make sure to have this list with you and plan to have lots of great meals in Bali!
