Amazing clear blue water, cascade made of 16 lakes with waterfalls between them, gorgeous scenery around! All this makes Plitvice lakes one of the main places to see in Croatia and today is the day for me to check it.
It is possible to get here from most of the main Croatian cities, but Zargeb is the closest one. Mostly everyone goes with the tour, but it’s at least twice cheaper and not very hard to get just using public transport. From main bus station there are regular buses going there and back with travel time around 2,5 hours one-way. It is better and cheaper to buy return ticket online in advance than directly from the driver. Thought you wouldn’t be so flexible, but it will save you around 30% and no risk to stay on the road because no more seats are available. Also some people visit lakes on the way between Split and Zagreb or vise versa (there is place to leave luggage at the information counter). Ticket price to the national park depends on season. For 2 of us total cost for this day trip was less than 50€.
Visiting Plitvice lakes is very comfortable, all pathes are well marked, easy to walk and very relaxed. There are several routes to see all the beauty of this place. Some of them takes 2-3 hours. The longest is around 18km, around 8 hours of easy walk.
Plitvice lakes are very popular and could be very busy, but the longer is your hike, the less people you see. So you will be surrounded by crowds at the very beginning, but it will be better after few kilometers. Also it is advisable to pack some sandwiches with you, it’s really nice to sit on a bench and have a little picnic among this stunning place! So Plitvice lake is definitely a georgeous and very accessible place to visit! Absolutely great and definitely one if my favorite natural sight i ever been!
